Tango Pastry, located in Alexandria, is an authentic Latin American bakery serving sweet and savory treats like alfajores, facturas, and empanadas. It also has a weekend brunch menu that includes tea sandwiches, pasta, pizza, and other specialties.
The pizza at Tango Pastry consists of homemade dough and tomato sauce to achieve a delicious crunchy crust and low acidic flavor. If you’re in the mood for something savory but want to experience something new, the shop also offers Easter Pie, which is made with a puff pastry crust and stuffed with any combination of spinach, cheese, eggs, and ricotta cheese.
Tango Pastry exists to bring the art of the Argentine bakery to the broader public of the Washington DC area. Owner Sandra is extremely kind and helpful, walking you through the entire menu and offering samples. Their prices are very reasonable (including empanadas for just $2!) and the food is fresh and flavorful. Menu items do sell out quickly on the weekends, so be sure to get there early for a wider selection.
