George Washington was more than a Revolutionary War hero and more than the nation's first president. He was also a member of the Masonic fraternity, a longstanding organization dedicating to developing a loving community led by members of the brotherhood. The George Washington Masonic National Memorial pays homage to George Washington's impact on the nation as both a political leader and a Mason.
Each day, the museum hosts several tours that shed some light on the brotherhood of the Masons. You can also just grab a ticket when you arrive and embark on a self-guided tour instead. Along the way, you'll see letters between Washington and other Masons, portraits of him as a young general, and photos of major events in history as seen through the eyes of the Freemasons.
