Visiting a local farmers market is a great way to support area farmers and get your fill of fresh, local produce. Living in Alexandria, you’re lucky enough to have the Old Town Farmers Market every Saturday at Market Square. From 7 a.m. to 12 p.m., stop in to pick up whatever is in season from friendly farmers and purveyors in the local community.
The Old Town Farmers Market has been taking place for more than 260 years, which makes it the oldest farmers market in the country taking place on the same site. In fact, George Washington even sent his produce from his Mount Vernon farm to sell at the market! If you want to take part in a piece of history while also stocking up on fresh, seasonal fruits and veggies, you won’t want to miss it.
